Greatness Requires hard work, so focus on the Process

"Everyone wants to be great, until it's time to do what greatness requires...your greatest challenge during your time here will be faithfully keeping your focus on the process, while surrendering the outcome." - Chop Wood, Carry Water, Joshua Medcalf

Almost everyone has goals to achieve great things, but where people fall short is the process. They may believe that they can be great without giving everything they have. But, all too often, one finds out quickly that with greatness comes hard, hard work and when that work becomes seemingly too much for an unknown outcome, they quit. I mean, it is a scary thing, putting everything into an unknown. But the key to getting through this is not focusing on that outcome. If that is all you can focus on, the process becomes too much, too daunting. You may start to think, what if all of this amounts to nothing? Once you start thinking like this, your preparation starts to decrease in quality and eventually, you may give up. How then, can we avoid this? Focus each and every day on what you are doing to better yourself. Focus each day on doing each step of the PROCESS the best you can. For example, if it is sports, focus each day on doing the best you possibly can with your training, your nutrition, your sleep, your mental status, all without thought of the potentials of the outcome. When you do this, you build the foundation to greatness, without fear of the outcome. You have to surrender to what the outcome is, uncontrollable. What you can control is what you do each and every day, and when the right time comes, greatness will be reaped from those efforts.
