Cherish people not things

“Don’t cling to things because everything is impermanent.”- Tuesdays with Morrie, Mitch Albom

When I read this quote, I think of this. We go to school all our lives to get a job, we get a job to make money, to pay for rent, utilities, bills, food, and if we are lucky fun stuff like nice cars, houses, vacations and other material things. But, have you ever noticed how so many wealthy people who seemingly have everything are some of the unhappiest people? They have all this stuff, that so many people envy, yet they cannot find happiness in their own lives. Why is that? Well, just like the old saying goes, money can't buy happiness. This quote comes from a book about the end of life, and what can be further learned from what this quote is trying to say is, that when you are on your death bed or are old and potentially sick, all your stuff, your things, they won't matter anymore because you can't use them. But, if you have people who love you and who you've built relationships with, they can be there, they can be there to talk to you, and give you love and affection. Your things, they will get sold, passed along to others, but what you feel in your heart is kept and treasured. Don't go through life clinging to these things, but instead cling to the people around you, and cherish them, for they are what really matters and in the end will bring you happiness :)
